12 Hour - High-Conflict Co-Parenting - Co-Parenting Without Conflict

May 8, 2024

Alexander M.

I like the communication skills and discussion around the grief cycle. However, this class did not take into account that we have been separated and broken up for 5 years. We have also be through a full divorce trial with custody and child support order. We also had another child support order in 2022. Now we are onto a contempt and modification hearing in 2024. So I believe us both to be way past dealing with the break up which this class largely focuses on. Additionally our daughter has been going back and forth between houses since November 2018 so I think she is well adjusted and understanding at this point.

I think it gave better insight on how to handle these difficult situations. Reading and learning about these situations helped me not feel so alone. Although I have taken a lot of approaches offered in here to handle difficult situations there were definitely some new techniques to try with my parenting partner.

I hope and believe that this program will help myself and my co-parent be better parents and it will most certainly help me in the decision making for my family, not just for my son but for my current relationship and my other children. I honestly wish more parents took this course and earlier on in a separation. It can also help talk to your kids about the situation and that's worth gold in my eyes.

It is a program that is designed for parents in normal situations, where you can manage parenting by talking and reaching agreements. This is not my case because my daughter's father is very explosive and you cannot have an open conversation with him.

I enjoyed learning about the conflict resolution approaches. I wish my spouse and I would have taken this course 6 years ago, because we might have been able to learn better communication skills then going to counseling.

Reflecting on this program, there are several aspects that I found particularly beneficial: 1) Comprehensive Content: I appreciated the thoroughness of the program's content, covering a wide range of topics related to co-parenting and divorce. It really opened my eyes to understand how important a healthy co-parenting relationship is. There were things that I learned that really changed my perspective on how the other parent might receive what I am trying to say. I really enjoyed the videos as well. The tools! The strategy! I wish I would have had this class sooner - specifically before we told the kids we were breaking up. I haven't had follow-up conversations with the kids and I was honestly afraid to because I didn't want to be accused of bringing the kids into adult situations. Now I understand it all better, but I think that mistake set me back in my relationship with the kids. I am also very grateful for the section on communication. I have a high conflict co-parent and it is so difficult to keep focused on solutions, but the tools here I think will help.

I really appreciated hearing from the experts and incorporating their frameworks into how I'm processing and working toward a better situation for the kids.
