OnlineParentingPrograms.com offers parents a foundational understanding of parenting skills in order to raise children from toddlers to teens. It is rich with effective strategies for instilling communication, cooperation, responsibility, and self-esteem in your children and teens. OnlineParentingPrograms provides tools and a positive approach to discipline in an effort to develop a strong sense of responsibility in your children as well as create an encouraging family environment. This class is appropriate for, all parents expecting or having children of any age, from toddlers to teens; step-Parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles, babysitters, teachers, counselors, nurses, social workers, or anyone who relates to children.

  • Encourage and engage your child in conversation on various topics (in person and face-to-face, no notes). Don't be afraid to ask a question that you yourself do not have the answer for. Ask your child questions that you already know the answers to - to verify their truthfulness.
  • Be a role model - be aware of your own behaviors and attitudes in front of your children. Acknowledge them when they behave in a manner you approve of.
  • Set limits and consequences for their behavior and misbehavior. Be as consistent as possible.
  • Spend time together - start when they're young - as they grow older they will accept your participation.
  • Discuss any problem. Do not be afraid to compromise. Remember that parents always make the final decisions.
  • Exchange ideas and what works/doesn't work with other parents. You don't have to reinvent the wheel on a daily basis.
  • Educate yourself so that you can be the best parent possible.

Proper parenting shapes the coming generations, and the way the next generation will behave. Parenting without a proper foundation leads to confusion for any developing child. That is why the attempt of trying to be a successful parent is so important and will be the most important job of one's life. Knowing what healthy methods are best for one's child during parenting is time consuming but a rewarding effort.

It is necessary to provide clear expectation of what you as the parent or caregiver expect. This varies based on your background, but creating a list of expectations (such as social, academic, religious, family oriented, personal appearance or hygiene) will help you be clearer in your parenting program, which will benefit both you and your children. It is important to take into consideration your child's age, ability, developmental status, and the resources available to you. Set realistic expectations based on your child's developmental status and age so that your children will experience success and perform what you have expected.

Learning how to properly communicate expectations to develop responsible children and teach respect takes time and patience. Your children need boundaries and it is up to you as the parent to encourage them even when they fail. This will help your child's self-esteem and behavior by communicating expectations and not punishing your child but providing clear expectation to learn.

Positive Parenting

When parenting, it is important to stay calm and do not participate in the fight. Remaining calm is necessary whether applying positive or negative consequences to your child. Your children may make you so angry and as a parent, try not to get caught up in the moment and as a result are not able to think, remember who the adult is. Take a deep breath and practice positive thinking, do not take what your child says personally, try to keep focused on behaviors instead of what you think the reasons are for your child's misbehaviors, and if you ever get angry and say or do something you regret, go back and apologize once you are calm and be consistent. Consistency is the key to being a successful parent, showing the child that you are reliable and serious.

Keep in mind that positive consequences are used to increase the behaviors you are looking for in your child. Praise your child for following directions or taking initiative. You do not need to bribe your child to get the behavior you are looking for words speak louder than gifts. Creating a reward system can be helpful in shaping behavior.

It is also important that you are a role model to your children. Your children watch everything you do and if you do not model good behavior it is not reasonable to expect your children to act different. Try to role play proper behavior with your child in order to teach your children proper behavior without resorting to the use of punishments or consequences. Each and every time you practice doing the right thing in a situation with your child; you increase the chances for their success and decrease the likelihood that your child will see that problem behavior in the future.
