Helpguide’s Yellow Pages

When contacting anyone, it will be helpful for you to briefly explain your situation, why you need assistance, which party you are, and where you are filing your case. Try locating a resource who is familiar with and believes in your ultimate goal, maintaining an ongoing relationship with your children after the divorce or separation. Keep in mind, it is always better to resolve issues related to custody, visitation and support directly with your co-parent than to go to court.

Help for Abused and Battered Families

Domestic Violence: Finding Safety & Support – Guide for abused and battered families offers advice on getting safe, using the police or the courts, and finding support. (New York State Office for the Prevention of Domestic Violence)

Help for Abused Men

While the majority of domestic violence victims are women, abuse of men happens far more often than you'd probably expect. Typically, men are physically stronger than women but that doesn't necessarily make it easier to escape the violence or the relationship.

Internet Security – Gives detailed instructions on how to clear your computer’s Internet browser and email account from showing evidence of your seeking help for domestic abuse. (Women’s Law Initiative)

Protecting Your Identity – Tips for keeping your identity and location a secret after leaving an abusive relationship. (National Coalition Against Domestic Violence)

Domestic Violence Resource Center 1-800-656-HOPE

The National Domestic Violence Hotline is staffed 24 hours a day by trained counselors who can provide crisis assistance and information about shelters, legal advocacy, health care centers, and counseling.

The Rape, Abuse, Incest National Network (RAINN) will automatically transfer you to the rape crisis center nearest you, anywhere in the nation. It can be used as a last resort if people cannot find a domestic violence shelter.

Visit the U.S. Department of Justice Violence Against Women Office for information and resources, including government press releases and statements or RAINN the largest anti-sexual assault organization page.
