4 Hour - Co-Parenting / Divorce Class

February 18, 2025

Christy B.

Honestly this program made me think about some things that I haven't. Ways that I may be coping, ways that my kids may be coping with these changes. I know that as the primary parent I need to make sure that I provide that open space for my girls to talk to me. I know I have to set aside my feelings for their dad and be present for them and their feelings towards their dad.

I really liked how this programs gives parenting a different point of view, coming from the child and not only as a parent and the affects our parenting styles will have on our children later on when they’re older. I found everything very useful and will take a lot of it into consideration into changing my parenting into something that will help raise my son into a good man with good morals and respect. It taught me things I didn’t know as a first time parent and will be helpful for me later on as well.

Practical Tools & Strategies: The program provided real-life tools for handling co-parenting challenges, from conflict resolution techniques to communication strategies that keep things focused on the children. Child-Centered Approach: I appreciated the consistent focus on the well-being of the children and how the course emphasized minimizing conflict to create a healthy, stable environment for them. Clear Guidance on Parenting Plans: The step-by-step approach to creating or revising a parenting plan was extremely helpful. It helped me think through important details, anticipate changes, and plan for the future. Encouragement of Self-Reflection: The journal entries and exercises encouraged me to reflect on my own actions, triggers, and co-parenting habits in a way that was constructive and solution-oriented. Balance Between Self-Care and Co-Parenting Responsibilities: I liked that the program acknowledged the importance of self-care—reminding parents that they need to be in a good place emotionally in order to co-parent effectively. Options for Different Co-Parenting Styles: The program recognized that not all co-parents can work closely together and gave strategies for both cooperative parenting and parallel parenting, which makes it more realistic for different situations. Helpful Communication Strategies: I learned new ways to keep discussions productive with my co-parent and avoid common communication pitfalls that lead to misunderstandings or conflict. Encouragement for Growth & Flexibility: The program made it clear that co-parenting is an ongoing process and that adapting to change is key to long-term success.

First of all, I want to thank you for this class. It will be very helpful for my future relationship with my son and my ex-partner. Thank you for teaching me how to handle my feelings and how to take care of myself. Realizing that one of the things I have to do first is face myself in order to be okay and so that my son is okay. How to handle the stages of the breakup or separation that I am going through, and also how to motivate myself to keep moving forward after one feels that the world is falling on top of them with a situation like this. It also helped me manage things as a separated parent, understand the conflicts and how to handle them with the other foster parent. And above all, I learned how to communicate with my son and how to protect him... and have a healthy relationship with him and the co-parent... thank you.
